Individual Psychotherapy & Career Counseling
Disruptive Life Transitions
Life is unpredictable and often does not turn out as we had hoped for and planned. The things that matter most to us -- our health, marriages, children, careers, families, friends and even our own self-identity -- sometimes fall apart. It is my belief that such moments of vulnerability present profound opportunities for growth. It takes strength and emotional intelligence to know when you need the assistance of a professional; coming to therapy is a positive first stride towards investing in your happiness.
Grief/Bereavement
There are few experiences as painful as losing someone you love. It disrupts many aspects of your life including your mental, emotional and physical sense of well-being. As a grief and bereavement specialist, I will help you understand this disruption and regain a sense of balance in your life. Grief is a normal response to loss, but sometimes the feelings go on for too long or affect our ability to function, connect with others, and enjoy life. Sometimes an unresolved grief from long ago may cause problems later, during stressful or challenging times. Having a strong support system, someone you can talk with who is not emotionally involved, is helpful during these difficult times.
LGBTQIA2S+/Gender-Affirming Care
Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity: Exploring romantic and erotic attraction, practices, and any challenges; this includes support with the “coming out” process and with integrating sexuality into one’s life. If you are at any stage in the process of exploring your gender identity or have a family member on that journey, I have over a decade of navigating that path with my clients, including fully transitioning with the assistance of hormone therapy and surgery.
Performance Anxiety & Creative Pressure
Artists are often exceptionally perceptive and sensitive, traits that can make a person more vulnerable to depression and anxiety. Artists face a variety of issues such as: impostor syndrome; writers’ block; frequent rejection (submitting art, auditioning, etc.); performance anxiety; physical injuries; struggles with work/art/life balance; and identity/self-worth intertwined with creativity and critical feedback. Creativity and confidence flow more freely when inner obstacles and blocks within the psyche are identified and dissolved. Therapy can help you maintain a healthier emotional environment and provide another path to accessing a deeper expanse of emotions and open a direct link to the artistic passion and imagery of the unconscious mind.
Career Assessment & Exploration
Assessment bridges an inward connection to the self. It can help us remember our accomplishments, what we value most and what we like about ourselves. My clients are often looking for a meaningful, purposeful connection with the world and some guidance to successfully navigate their life and career transitions. Some people want to find ways to enhance satisfaction at their current job by redefining their roles and managing job stress better. Others are seeking clarity on what matters most in a career and simply need structure and the motivation to engage the exploration process further.
